The NTP for Lampung Province in October 2009 for each subsector was recorded at 116.25 for the Rice & Secondary Crops Subsector (NTP-P), 95.31 for the Horticulture Subsector (NTP-H), 109.46 for the People's Plantation Crops Subsector (NTP-Pr ), 105.70 for the Livestock Subsector (NTP-Pt) and 115.26 for the Fisheries Subsector (NTP-Pi). Meanwhile, the Provincial/Combined NTP was recorded at 110.01, which was an increase of 0.45 percent compared to the previous month, namely 109.52.
The increase in NTP of 0.45 percent occurred because the index received by farmers increased by 0.71 percent, which was greater than the index paid by farmers which increased by 0.26 percent. The increase in Lampung Province's NTP was caused by a fairly high increase in commodity prices in the smallholder plantation crop sub-sector.
If the NTP per subsector in October 2009 is compared with September 2009, it can be seen that two of the five NTP subsectors have increased, namely the food crop subsector (0.57%) and smallholder plantation crops (2.01%). Meanwhile, two subsectors experienced a decline, namely the horticultural crops subsector and the livestock subsector, which fell by 0.91% and 0.39% respectively, while the fisheries subsector did not experience any change.
Of the 32 provinces reported in October 2009, 19 provinces experienced an increase in the index and 13 provinces experienced a decrease in the index. The highest increase in NTP in October 2009 occurred in Southeast Sulawesi Province, namely 1.05 percent, due to deflation of 0.37 percent while prices received by farmers rose by 0.79 percent. Meanwhile, the biggest decline in NTP occurred in West Sumatra, which fell by 1.12 percent, because there was quite high inflation in West Sumatra at 1.20 percent, while the prices received by farmers actually fell by 0.20 percent.
In October 2009, inflation was still occurring in rural areas in Lampung Province at 0.34 percent even though Eid was over. This is not in line with what happened in Bandar Lampung City because in October there was deflation of 0.23 percent. Inflation in rural areas was caused by an increase in the price index in three farmer expenditure groups, namely: foodstuffs (0.53%), prepared foods (0.09%), and housing (0.45%). Meanwhile, four other groups did not experience changes in the index, namely the clothing, health, education, recreation and sports and transportation & communication groups.
