Abstract

Entering June 2009, most commodities in Bandar Lampung City experienced price increases. The group that makes the largest contribution to the formation of inflation in the city of Bandar Lampung is the foodstuffs group. Several commodities rose in this group, especially those included in the grains, meat and produce, vegetables, fruit and spices subgroups. Some commodities in other groups also experienced price increases so that in general inflation in Bandar Lampung City was 0.34 percent. Inflation in Bandar Lampung City is ranked 17th out of 66 cities where price developments are observed. Overall, 47 cities experienced inflation and 19 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Tarakan at 1.44 percent and the largest deflation occurred in Ambon at 2.70 percent.

Based on the calculation of the consumer price index (CPI), inflation occurred due to an increase in the index in the foodstuffs group by 0.80 percent, housing by 0.36 percent, clothing by 0.33 percent, education, recreation and sports by 0.56 percent. Meanwhile, the processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco and health services groups experienced a decline in the index of 0.05 percent and 0.20 percent respectively. Meanwhile, the transportation and communications group did not experience any price changes.

Some commodities that contribute to inflation include kerosene, oranges, spinach, rice, garlic, house rent, color television, mackerel, long beans and fresh squid. Until June 2009, the inflation rate for Bandar Lampung City based on the calendar year was -0.38 percent and "year on year" inflation (June 2009 versus June 2008) was 5.33 percent.
