Abstract

Entering August 2009, most commodities in the city of Bandar Lampung experienced quite high price increases, thus encouraging inflation. The group that makes the most dominant contribution to the formation of inflation is the education, recreation and sports group, namely the educational services sub-group. Likewise, most commodities in other groups also experienced an increase and contributed to inflation so that in general inflation in Bandar Lampung City was 1.33 percent. Inflation in Bandar Lampung City is ranked 6th out of 66 cities where price developments are observed. Overall, 63 cities experienced inflation and 3 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Manokwari at 2.00 percent and the largest deflation occurred in Sorong at 0.76 percent.

Based on the calculation of the consumer price index (CPI), inflation occurred due to an increase in the index in almost all expenditure groups, namely the education, recreation and sports group by 4.44 percent, housing by 3.11 percent, prepared food, drinks, cigarettes and tobacco by 1.05 percent, health 0.53 percent and food ingredients 0.40 percent. The transport and communication group only experienced slight price changes so it had relatively no effect on changes in the index, while the clothing group experienced deflation, namely 0.03 percent.

Some commodities that contribute to inflation include household fuel, high school education costs, house rent, sugar, garlic, house contracts, tempeh, selar, high school education costs and wall paint. Until August 2009, the inflation rate for Bandar Lampung City based on the calendar year was 1.74 percent and "year on year" inflation (August 2009 versus August 2008) was 4.17 percent.
