Labor Conditions in Lampung Province February 2009

The total workforce in Lampung Province in February 2009 reached 3.74 million people, an increase of 169.5 thousand people compared to the total workforce in August 2008. When compared with the situation in the previous year (February 2008) this number increased by 79.1 thousand person.

With the increase in the workforce in February 2009, the Labor Force Participation Rate (TPAK) reached 70.33 percent or an increase of 3.43 percent when compared to the same indicator in August 2008 (68.00 percent).

The number of working people in Lampung Province in February 2009 reached 3.5 million people, an increase of 193.8 thousand people compared to the situation in August 2008. When compared with the situation in the previous year (February 2008) this number increased by 76.8 thousand people . Even though there has been an increase, 31.01 percent of these workers still work below normal working hours (< 35 hours per week).

The employment situation in February 2009 was marked by an increase in the number of workers in the agriculture, plantation, forestry, hunting and fisheries sectors, which increased by 11.62 percent (213.8 thousand people), followed by the community, social and personal services sector by 7.09 percent. (22 thousand people) as well as the trade, restaurant and accommodation services sector at 3.68 percent (20 thousand people). The construction sector itself, which experienced a fairly high increase of 41.92 percent (45.4 thousand people) in the period February – August 2008, in the last period (August 2008 – February 2009) actually experienced a sharp decline of -39.82 percent. .

The number of unemployed in February 2009 decreased compared to the situation in August 2008, namely a decrease of around -9.52 percent or 24.3 thousand people. However, when compared with the situation in February 2008, the number of unemployed in February 2009 still experienced a slight increase of 554 people.

The open unemployment rate (TPT) in Lampung Province in February 2009 reached 6.18 percent, or down compared to the situation in August 2008 (7.15 percent) and February 2008 (6.30 percent).
