Labor Conditions in Lampung Province August 2009

The total workforce in Lampung Province in August 2009 reached 3.63 million people, an increase of 58.4 thousand people compared to the total workforce in August 2008. When compared with the situation in February 2009, this number decreased by 111.1 thousand people.

The Labor Force Participation Rate (TPAK) in August 2009 reached 67.77 percent or decreased by 0.23 percent when compared with the same indicator in August 2008 (68.00 percent).

Thus, the Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) in Lampung Province in August 2009 reached 6.62 percent, or decreased compared to the situation in August 2008 (7.15 percent) but increased compared to the situation in February 2009 (6.18 percent).

The number of working people in Lampung Province in August 2009 reached 3.4 million people, an increase of 73.6 thousand people compared to the situation in August 2008. Even though there was an increase, 36.57 percent of these workers still worked under normal working hours. (< 35 hours per week).

If we look at the last six months, the influence of the seasons still has a very big impact on the employment situation in Lampung Province, which so far is still dominated by the agricultural sector. This can be seen from the decline in the number of people working in the agricultural sector to 10.89 percent in August 2009 when compared to the situation in February 2009, so that overall in the last 6 months there has been a decline in the working population to 3.43 percent.
