Abstract

n May 2020, the city of Bandar Lampung experienced deflation of 0.29 percent. Deflation occurred due to a decrease in prices as indicated by a decrease in the price index in the food, beverage and tobacco expenditure group by 1.60 percent; and the recreation, sports and culture group at 0.03 percent. On the other hand, six expenditure groups experienced an increase in the price index (inflation), namely the supplies, equipment and routine household maintenance group by 0.37 percent; health group 0.28 percent; transportation group 0.37 percent; information, communication and financial services group 1.52 percent; food and beverage/restaurant provision group 0.15 percent; and the personal care and other services group 0.47 percent. Meanwhile, clothing and footwear group; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuel groups; and the education group did not experience changes in the price index.

The dominant commodities that contributed to the formation of deflation in May 2020 included: rice with a contribution of 0.19 percent; red chili 0.15 percent; garlic 0.10 percent; purebred chicken eggs 0.09 percent; cayenne pepper 0.05 percent; wine 0.02 percent; squid 0.02 percent; granulated sugar 0.01 percent; orange 0.01 percent; and green chilies 0.004 percent.

The inflation rate for the calendar year (January – May 2020) was 0.41 percent, and the year-on-year inflation rate (May 2020 versus May 2019) was 1.50 percent
