In May 2010, several commodities with high consumption value, especially those included in the processed food, beverage, cigarette and tobacco groups and clothing groups such as granulated sugar, clove cigarettes and gold jewelry experienced quite significant price increases. The price increases in several commodities, which were also supported by the increase in the prices of several other commodities, caused inflation in Bandar Lampung City by 0.24 percent. Meanwhile, the food group, which had experienced inflation in the previous months, experienced deflation in May.
The group that contributed most to inflation was the processed food, beverage, cigarette and tobacco group due to the increase in the prices of several commodities such as garlic, spinach, broiler chicken, cassava leaves and bean sprouts. Other groups that also contributed to inflation were housing, clothing, health services and the transportation and communication group. One group, namely the food group, experienced deflation, and one group did not experience any changes, namely the education, recreation and sports group. Inflation in Bandar Lampung City was ranked 37th out of 66 cities whose price developments were observed. A total of 58 cities experienced inflation and 8 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Maumere at 1.51 percent, while the largest deflation occurred in Manokwari at 1.61 percent.
Based on the calculation of the consumer price index (CPI), inflation occurred due to an increase in the index in five expenditure groups, namely processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco 0.89 percent, housing 0.27 percent, clothing 1.63 percent, health services 0.09 percent and transportation and communication 0.01 percent. One group, namely the food group, experienced a decrease in the index by 0.37 percent and one group, namely education, recreation and sports, did not experience a change in the index.
Several commodities that predominantly contributed to inflation include garlic, spinach, gold jewelry, sweet bread and granulated sugar. Based on the calendar year (point to point) inflation in Bandar Lampung City was 1.26 percent, and year-on-year inflation was 6.26 percent.
