Abstract

In February 2010, several commodities with high consumption value such as rice and filtered kretek cigarettes experienced a significant price increase. The price increase of these two commodities, which was also supported by the price increase of several other commodities, caused inflation in Bandar Lampung City to reach 0.54 percent. Several commodities that experienced a price increase in the previous month and contributed significantly to last month's inflation, such as red chilies and granulated sugar, experienced a price decrease this month. The group that contributed most to inflation was the processed food, beverage, cigarette and tobacco group due to the increase in the price of several commodities such as filtered kretek cigarettes, kretek cigarettes, oily cookies, ketupat/lontong sayur, and satay. Four other groups also contributed to inflation, one group, namely education, recreation and sports, contributed to deflation and one group, namely transportation and communication, did not experience any price changes. Inflation in Bandar Lampung City ranked 15th out of 66 cities whose price developments were observed. A total of 52 cities experienced inflation and 14 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Tarakan at 1.82 percent, while the lowest inflation occurred in Maumere with deflation of 1.30 percent.
