Abstract

Entering July 2009, most commodities in the city of Bandar Lampung experienced quite high price increases, thus encouraging inflation. The group that makes the most dominant contribution to the formation of inflation is the foodstuffs group. Several commodities rose in this group, especially those included in the spices, other food ingredients and fresh fish subgroups. Likewise, most commodities in other groups also experienced an increase and contributed to inflation so that in general inflation in Bandar Lampung City was 0.79 percent. Inflation in the city of Bandar Lampung is ranked 18th out of 66 cities where price developments are observed. Overall, 62 cities experienced inflation and 4 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Sorong at 2.19 percent and the largest deflation occurred in Jayapura at 0.56 percent.

Based on the calculation of the consumer price index (CPI), inflation occurred due to an increase in the index in all expenditure groups, namely the foodstuffs group by 2.38 percent, health and education services, recreation and sports each by 0.48 percent, clothing by 0.36 percent. , housing 0.23 percent, transport and communications 0.07 percent and the prepared food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group at 0.06 percent.

Several commodities that contribute to inflation include mackerel, garlic, rice, purebred chicken meat, red chilies, shallots, fruit tomatoes, vegetable tomatoes, sand and purebred chicken eggs. As of July 2009, the inflation rate in Bandar Lampung City is based on the year calendar, namely 0.41 percent and "year on year" inflation (July 2009 versus July 2008) of 3.87 percent.
