Abstract

  • In December 2008, Lampung Province's NTP for each subsector was recorded at 106.42 for the Rice & Secondary Crops Subsector (NTP-P), 97.61 for the Horticulture Subsector (NTP-H), 102.43 for the People's Plantation Crops Subsector (NTP -Pr), 103.06 for the Livestock Subsector (NTP-Pt) and 113.85 for the Fisheries Subsector (NTP-Pi). Meanwhile, the Provincial/Combined NTP was recorded at 104.13, which was an increase of 0.37 percent compared to the previous month, namely 103.74.

  • The increase in NTP of 0.37 percent occurred due to a larger increase in the index received by farmers, although the index paid by farmers also increased, but the increase was smaller. The index received by farmers rose 0.81 percent, while the index paid by farmers rose 0.44 percent. The commodities that triggered an increase in the index received by Lampung Province farmers in December 2008 were in particular palm oil, cocoa, coffee, mackerel, flying fish, pork and Manila ducks.

  • If the NTP per subsector in December 2008 is compared with November 2008, it can be seen that four of the five NTP subsectors have increased, namely the horticulture subsector (0.69%), smallholder plantation crops (5.76%), livestock (0.86%), and fisheries (2.81%). Meanwhile, another subsector, namely the rice and secondary crops subsector, experienced a decline of 1.89%.

  • Of the 32 provinces reported in December 2008, 27 provinces experienced an increase in the index and only 5 provinces experienced a decrease in the index. The highest increase in NTP in December 2008 occurred in Bengkulu Province, namely 3.01 percent, because the index received by farmers rose to 3.71 percent, while the index paid by farmers only increased by 0.68 percent. Meanwhile, the largest decline in NTP occurred in South Sumatra Province, namely down by 0.55 percent, because the index received by farmers fell by 0.41 percent while the index paid by farmers rose by 0.14 percent.
  • In December 2008, inflation occurred in rural areas in Lampung Province amounting to 0.39 percent due to high price index increases in five groups, namely: foodstuffs (0.72%), prepared foods (0.40%), housing (1 .89%), health (0.73), and the education, recreation and sports group (0.24%). Meanwhile, two other groups experienced a decline in the index, namely the clothing group (0.09%) and the transportation and communication group (5.28%).
